Blue Sky, on 'Travels in Cornwall'
"Clowance Estate is our favorite place to stay when we go to Cornwall, England. I also painted a series of work there in 1994.
"These oil paintings of the English countryside were painted in November 2005. Each day I would pack some food and a bottle of wine in my backpack, fold up my easel and hoist it on my back until I was about to collapse under the load, then set out hiking across the estate of Clowance near the town of Praze-an-Beeble. I would hike until something caught my eye, then stop, set up my equipment, open the bottle of wine, set up my palette with the colors I saw before me, then start singing, drinking, and painting until it was dark, but still light enough to find my way home. It was cold, windy, and rainy. My fingers were numb most of the time.
"No doubt you've seen more detailed paintings of landscapes by other artists, but bear in mind they were probably done, in most cases, in a studio, from photographs. When a painting is done on location with local water it is imbued with qualities that cannot be described or measured, giving the finished work a directness and honesty that will forever enrich the viewers experience."
